headlines

I generally try to stay away from mindless “posts” about what I had for breakfast this morning or what I watched on TV last night and try to always add something to the site that might be of interest to someone other than myself. Of course, I do this at the cost of making less entries than the typical blog as sometimes I don’t have anything interesting to write about. Tonight is a little different, though. I have a lot of stuff I want to talk about, but, as always, am running late and don’t have time to get everything down. Here’s some “Matt headlines” for everyone, though.

Gay marriages in San Francisco. One can really see the effects of the job market downturn by examining this issue. I mean, who the hell has time to protest gay marriage? Must be all the people who are out of work or something. It amazes me that some are so consumed by damning other people’s lifestyles and choices. I don’t see how gay marriage really has anything to do with heterosexuals and their marriages.
Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Um, I don’t support this. But I do support an amendment requiring all possible Presidential candidates pass a basic aptitude test prior to taking office.
Social Security and Medicare cuts. Greenspan wants to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits due to the huge budget deficit. Why not support the middle and lower class and keep these beneficial programs in place while paring back some of the military spending that is eating up billions and billions of our dollars? I’d much rather have my tax money go towards helping people rather than go towards killing people.
Ralph Nader running for President. I’ve really been struggling with this piece of news. I took a quick look at Nader’s web site and aside from some of the anti-corporation stuff (he’s a little obsessive about this issue) he seems to be a lot closer to my beliefs than the current Democrats on the campaign trail. If I had to vote on policy, I’d probably vote for Nader. (I mean, both Kerry and Edwards voted to invade Iraq.) But, I’m a realist and know that Nader will never be elected. Does that mean I think he shouldn’t run? Of course not. Does that mean I’m voting for the Democratic nominee? I don’t know yet.

That’s it for now.
