poetry

I’ve been reading a lot of poetry lately and have decided it’s wreaking havoc on my life. I’m having a hard time watching movies now that don’t seem “poetic.” While this isn’t completely true (I’m currently watching Raiders of the Lost Ark for like the 50th time), I am finding trips to BlockBuster more interesting. I have to to forcibly restrain myself from randomly grabbing subtitled movies with descriptions that don’t make sense. Anything with a “film festival winner” on the label is a guaranteed checkout. Of course, my wife, who hates these kinds of movies, is less than thrilled about my new affliction.

I’m also having a hard time reading anything but poetry. Why slog through thousands and thousands of pages late at night when those perfect little 15 line poems encapsulate their author’s thoughts so nicely. So completely. So easily. Poems are the perfect antidote for the tired, weary white-collar worker with an incredibly short attention span.
