rebel

I bought a new camera a couple weeks ago and it was finally delivered last week. I was going back and forth between the new Canon EOS Rebel XT and the Nikon D70 and finally decided on the Canon. I also picked up two additional lenses — an EF 50mm and an EF 28mm-135mm IS. I really wanted to go with the D70 because I had read that the body construction was so much better than the Rebel XT. And, I guess there’s this allure around Nikon that seems to be associated with professional photographers. For the record I’m not usually influenced by “brands,” but when there’s a ton of loyalty behind a brand I take notice. (Apparently the Nikon versus Canon religious debate goes back decades.) In the end, though, I just couldn’t get past the fact that the Canon was based on newer technology and was getting such good reviews. The only drawback mentioned in the reviews was the camera’s size and construction. In my case the size isn’t a problem (it fits my hands fine) and the construction is better than I thought. The image quality and the ease of use are both pretty awesome. To be fair, I haven’t spent a ton of time with the camera so I’ll report back if I run into any problems.

So now that I have the equipment I just need to get out and take some photos. Easier written than done, I guess. You see, for me one of the hardest things about photography is simply the act of getting out and taking pictures. Oddly enough, when I’m on vacation this isn’t a problem, but for some reason when I’m not on vacation I feel like a complete idiot walking around and taking photos of every day things. I’ve been thinking about this lately and how it relates to book by Chuck Palahniuk I’m currently reading. More on this later.
