I’m in the biggest Belle and Sebastian frenzy right now. (God bless iTunes and MasterCard.) I remember hearing The Stars of Track and Field when I was in college and thinking it was a pretty awesome song. I tried to get into B&S shortly after that first hearing, but just couldn’t do it. I totally wanted to, but it didn’t click. (Kind of like my jazz experiences around the same time.) Now, though, it seems to make sense. Not to sound too weird, but I think my muscial tastes in college just weren’t developed enough to appreciate what B&S were trying to do. Stuart Murdoch was on Fresh Air a few days ago. Check it out when you get a chance.

On an unrelated note, things have been pretty hectic around here lately. I finished my digital photography class a couple weeks ago. I created a set in Flickr with all of my “assignment” photos if you’re interested. The class was pretty cool. Probably the best thing about it was that it forced me to get out and shoot photos a couple times a week. I also really enjoyed thinking and talking about photography for (at least) 3 hours a week. The professor spent a lot of time in class showing photoblogs and discussing other people’s work. I’m glad I took the class. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep shooting on a regular basis.

At the end of February we went to Redondo Beach with some friends from our cycling club for the last stage of the Tour of California. To say the least, it was awesome. We had a great spot right by the start/finish line. When the peloton wasn’t flying by us we were able to watch the race on the big screen. Prior to the race we had a chance to walk around where the teams were getting ready. I got Levi Leipheimer’s autograph, which was a trip. I’m the worst when it comes to getting star-struck and acting like bumbling idiot. Afterwards I was kicking myself for not saying to him, “Let’s kick some ass in the tour this year!” (Instead I opted for a quiet, “Good luck out there today.”) At any rate, he’s a super-nice guy and a great racer so it was definitely a highlight to see him up close. I was also able to see Chris Horner and the Discovery Team, including George Hincapie. I was like a kid in a candy store. Check out the “Tour of California” Flickr set for some pics.

Otherwise it’s just been work and cycling. Heidi’s been on a training rampage lately (we’re both ramping up for the Solvang double at the end of March). Seems like we’re riding 100+ miles every Saturday, which has been cool. Stay tuned for more cycling stories.
