neko case live

On Wednesday Heidi and I saw Neko Case live at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach. I was raving about Neko Case a few weeks go so I’ll try to keep the gushing to a minimum. However, it’s hard to not go on and on about how good Neko Case is, especially live. The opening acts weren’t he best, but Neko’s set was incredible. She (and her band) played for about an hour and a half and cranked out just about every good song you can imagine. She sounds as good live as she does on her albums. All in all it was a great night. If you haven’t listened to her latest album make sure you give it a preview on iTunes (or whatever online music service you use). And, by all means, if you get a chance to see her live, do it.

I paid the price the next morning when I had to get up at 5:00am to ride my bike to work. (I only got about 3.5 hours of sleep so I wasn’t feeling too hot when the alarm went off.) But, I made it into work in 1:20, which was a decent time considering I was completely tired and had to lug my laptop. I wish I were able to commute more often, but it’s a pretty tough ride (about 25 miles one-way with some significant climbing) and it’s just too hard to make it to work and back in the daylight and put in a good day’s work. Nonetheless, I’m hoping to commute there and back in one day a couple of times before the summer ends.

On Wednesday we’re heading to New York to spend a few days with my friend, Ryan. My sister and brother-in-law are also going to be there for a few days (we’re all friends with Ryan) while they’re on their way to France. I’m really looking forward to hanging out with everyone, especially in New York. Hopefully we’ll have as much fun this time as we did a couple years ago. We’ll probably end up doing a lot of sight-seeing/people watching and will definitely take in a Broadway show. I’ll report more on my trip either from NYC or shortly after we get back.
