hemet [2 of 5]

April 22, 2007 &bull cycling

Last weekend I rode my second double of the year — the Hemet double century. I woke up at 3:30 and left the house around 4:00. I drove to the start, got registered, met up with my fellow NCCC riding partners, and was on the rode about 6:15. Aside from a little wind, the ride was uneventful until the last stop of the day (about 170 miles into the ride, if I remember correctly). I realized about 4 miles after leaving the stop that I had forgotten to check in, something that was required at all of the stops. It was starting to get dark and since I only had my small light I decided to keep riding and try to talk my way out of being disqualified. At the finish I found the head guy and explained the situation; he said he wasn’t a stickler on the check-ins and that missing one of them wouldn’t be a problem. The ride results haven’t been posted yet so until I see my name on the site I won’t be completely at ease. At any rate, lesson learned — pay attention no matter how tired you are and make sure you check in!!

Total time: 14 hours
Total miles: 200
