I’m somewhere between San Diego and Austin, TX, on my way to Orlando, FL for TechEd 2008. I’m going to try to write some blog entries from/about the conference as a means to get me motivated to start writing more frequently. My lack of updates hasn’t really been a matter of motivation — more a matter of time. But, I’m sure I’ll have plenty of time to write some stuff when I’m not in labs, sessions, “after-hours” events, or in my hotel room trying to get through the 5000+ e-mails in my inbox. Sounds like an air-tight plan….
But, I’m not here to complain about the rigors of being a shitty blogger. (Guess I just did that.) I just wanted to post the link to some pictures I took during my wife’s half Ironman (or “70.3 Ironman” for those in the know) in Boise, ID a week or so ago. And, rave about how proud I am at her determination and discipline over the past 6 months. It has been nothing short of awesome to have watched her train so hard and be so dedicated to it and then watch her fly through the toughest race of her life with so much poise and grace. She’s inspired me to try my hand at an Olympic distance triathlon later this year.
To back up a bit, we decided to roadtrip to Boise for the race and make a vacation out of it. I was a bit skeptical of driving that far, but, gas prices be damned, it turned out to be the best idea we’ve had all year. It was a blast and made Heidi’s race preparation a lot easier. After Boise we made our way to Portland, OR and then eventually down the coast to San Francisco. After SF, we cut inland and took the freeway back home. We saw everything from desert, wide open mountains, forest-covered mountains, jagged coastlines, and vine-covered hillsides. What an awesome trip. Now I’m on my way to Orlando for a four day tech conference while Heidi is overseas in Korea for some customer meetings. I won’t say I’m not dreading the landmines waiting in my e-mail inbox or the thought of getting back into the daily grind, I will say that I’m thankful to have had such a great trip with my rockstar wife.

[...] that didn’t work out as I had planned. I should have known better since this was my fourth TechEd. [...]
