Executive summary:
Made it.
Details:
I hit my four hour target and finished in 3:51. I felt really good for the first 15 miles. Not so good from 15 to 19. And 19 to 21 was a nightmare. I’m not sure what’s worse than a nightmare, but 21 to 26 was whatever that is. Seriously, though, it was a great experience and I think all of the early morning and after-work training paid off. I’m really proud of Heidi, too, who started out a little too fast, but powered through the second half and finished in a great 4:20. We’re both super-sore right now. Actually, that’s a bit of an understatement. I mean, I’ve been doing enough running and cycling over the past four years to know what being sore muscles feel like. But honestly, I’ve never felt anything like this. It was nearly a miracle I was able to drive us home.
So, tonight we’re planning on watching a movie and getting tipsy (shouldn’t take too much) with a bottle of good wine. I’m going to be taking the next few days off to recover before I hit the pool and bike. (All attention now turns to the CA 70.3).
