We changed up our regular Saturday routine a bit this last weekend and did a run/swim down in La Jolla. We slept in a little (6:00am) and then drove to La Jolla and did our quick 5 miler. After the run we met our friend Cathy, donned our wetsuits, and swam 1.5 miles in La Jolla cove. It was really cool how many people were there swimming. It’s almost like there’s a little “swimmer’s highway” out to the 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile buoys. I’m always a bit nervous swimming in the ocean, but felt really comfortable in the cove. There were so many people around (and life guards) that I never really got too distracted by “ocean creature” thoughts. I think we’re going try to make swimming at the cove part of our regular routine since we need the open-water practice.
We rode our tri bikes on Sunday (55 miles). I hadn’t ridden for a week, as I’m trying to let my left foot heal a bit, but still felt pretty good. My foot didn’t hurt too bad, but I’m not sure the week off really helped. As long as it doesn’t get any worse I’m just going to keep training.
