It’s been a crazy few weeks so I fell behind a bit on my weekly recaps. I’m working off the assumption that no one is really reading my blog, but I’m still interested in getting stuff posted if simply for the fact I’ll be able to reference it in the future. At any rate, the last couple weeks have been interesting. Right as I was starting to hit the peak load in my training program (at least for the 70.3) my legs cracked and I had to back things off a bit. I’ve been continuing to battle these “flare-ups” where my calves get so tight and start causing all sorts of shin/lower-leg pain. I’m not sure if it’s related to something I’m doing wrong while running/biking/swimming or if it’s just fatigue. The bodywork/ART I’ve been doing with Gina has helped a lot so I’m going to be sticking with that. I’m hoping to see a biomechanical expert after the 70.3 to analyze my running gate and help me determine if that’s the source of my problems. So, the last two weeks have been relatively light weeks, which simply means I had to start my taper about 5 days earlier than planned. I’m hoping it will be better to hit the starting line healthy (and perhaps a little rusty) than completely trained up, but hobbling around. We’ll find out on Saturday.
